Newsroom U
Created by Dr. Imani Cheers
Newsroom U brought together 25 top student journalists – 23 from college and 2 from high school – selected to participate in an inaugural student press conference with White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest and report on election year issues affecting D.C. Metro Area millennials.
These sensational student storytellers covered a range of topics and issues — documenting the intimate story of a sexual assault survivor fighting to make a difference, covering D.C. issues including statehood to gentrification, reporting with the White House press for President Obama’s Howard University commencement speech and getting an exclusive interview with the Howard University president, to name a few of the stories.
The diligence of and quality products created by these students highlight that journalism is changing: both through new multimedia platforms and the shifting demographics of the journalists who are reporting. Creating diverse communities of journalists, like NewsroomU, results in raw, powerful stories that will both move you and remind you of the power young people have to change our world – one story at a time.
